Beginning early this year, certain search engine made some changes to their search ranking,   in the hope of furnishing it’s search users better results, on official google blog it is estimated 11.8% search results will be affected by this update, in plain English, there are about 12% of google search results are considered low quality by google itself. Google started this change almost one year ago, no wonder I saw a few of my keywords’ ranks dropped like a rock, but almost all the ranks promoted by articles and blog posts were not affected, some of the keywords even ranked better than before, it’s safe to say that old way of link building is doomed.

So what exactly is linking campaign the old way? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they put your links on websites which only exist for holding links, the content on those sites will never be updated, it’s safe to assume all of them are trash, the name of link spamming sites is justified. New google algorithm most likely will punish these link spammers,  any links on them will be affected too. 

A few real world examples will help to explain what I said. It was quite some time ago, I started with this keyword, Towing Chains, of course with old way of link building, lately I figured that every site in the campaign had way too many links, and those sites had only links, no real content at all. This strategy worked in the beginning, lately the keyword link stayed on the first page for a while,   the honeymoon lasted until google changed it’s mind. Something opposite happened to this keyword, chain puller , most back links for this keyword are from articles and posts, almost no plain links, you can imagine how this keyword ranks. So contextual link wins this time, what about future? Actually this is all about content, as long as you dole out high quality content, you will attract readers as well as search engines. It’s never too late to build good blogs for business purpose, take a look at this blog, best baby strollers , I didn’t put too much effort into it from start, but I never stopped posting, you probably think this site won’t rank a all, in reality this site is doing pretty well for more than a few search terms. As far as SEO concerned, quality blog marketing is much better than plain link building. Remember content is king, you just need to create content, publish and share with people, and put your keywords in the context you’re good to go, this strategy will prevail in short or long term. The virtues, persistence and patience, are essential for your success, nothing will automatically improve overnight, be it your business or search rankings, keep doing what we have to do till the end of world.
